Book launch: Analytics in a Business Context

March 15, 2019, by Don Sheppard

The Vision to Value (V2V) community has worked hard over the past year to develop best practice positions on business issues around planning and implementation of advanced analytics. At an event hosted by InsightaaS and Information Builders this past month, the V2V group celebrated launch of a new book that captures this wisdom.

Analytics in a Business Context, assembled by principal analyst for InsightaaS Michael O’Neil, is the first of a series of working group collaborations aimed at exploring additional process and technical questions that will inform the responsible and productive use of data analytics. Beauharnois data centre a model of OVH DIY scale

March 5, 2019 by Mary Allen

Armed with specialist resources and extensive IP, the hyperscale infrastructure providers are renowned for their talent in pushing the envelope on data centre innovation. But how exactly do they achieve scale and efficiencies that enterprise data centre operators can only dream of?

French-based web services provider has provided a glimpse into the hyperscale world through a tour of its Beauharnois facility. Standards anatomy Pt 2 – Easing consumption to drive adoption

January 22, 2019 by Mary Allen

Can standards go viral? In the second part of a series on technology standards, InsightaaS considers various means that development bodies have used to improve standards traction. "It all starts with standards – they are at the heart of interoperability,” Canada’s Director of Digital Exchange Teresa D’Andrea argued at an OMG Technical Meeting in Ottawa; however, these must be highly consumable, i.e. "take no more than 30 minutes for a technologist to understand" if they are to be adopted.

Other keys to driving usage include the creation of a modeling language that can conceptualize complex processes in simple form, ongoing research by cross industry groups to ensure standards keep pace with tech change, and the socialization of stories highlighting how standards can support, and even inspire innovation. For a Canadian success story, read to the end of this brief on OMG activity in the government sector.

Save the date! For The Great Canadian Data Centre Symposium 2019

brought to you by InsightaaS and McMaster University's CIRC

"There are two kinds of conferences," noted an attendee to the inaugural GCDC Symposium: "those where you go to be seen, and those where you really learn something. The GCDC is the latter."

Building on the conference's growing reputation for thought leadership on techniques and tactics, innovation and best practices in the data centre industry, InsightaaS and the CIRC have announced dates for GCDCS19 - June 19-20. Collaboration between academic, practitioner and supplier communities is a unique feature of the GCDCS, which has been expanded through the addition of an Academic Congress and Canadian Data Centre Excellence Awards dinner at this year's two-day event.
