Hangin' Out with Attorney Ellen Patterson

Ellen s new picture

This month, we are featuring our beloved associate attorney, Ellen Patterson. Ellen has been with The Law Offices of Carol Bertsch, PC since Ocotber of 2018, and we have received a lot of praise about Ellen from our clients.

Before joining our firm, Ellen served as the staff attorney for the Catholic Charities Guardianship program. She handled more than 160 guardianships during her two years there.

Ellen (a San Antonio native) graduated from Alamo Heights High School and then went on to receive a BA in Plan II from The University of Texas at Austin. After earning a master’s degree in mathematics from the University of Texas at San Antonio, Ellen pursued a law degree from St. Mary’s University. Yes—Ellen is smart, but what we really love about Ellen is that she’s a big-hearted problem solver.

Ellen comes from a long line of attorneys. Check it out, from left to right:

1867-1951. Ellen’s Great Grandfather, John McCamy Patterson was a member of the first graduating class of the University of Texas School of Law in 1888. He practiced law as a general practitioner in estate planning, real estate, and probate in Austin Texas. He was also the Democratic Party Chair of Travis County for over 30 years.

1913-1995. Ellen's Grandfather, Woodrow Patterson, graduated from the University of Texas School of Law and practiced privately in probate, estate planning, and real estate law. He became an adjunct professor at U.T. School of Law where he helped start the first Legal Aid Clinic, setting an example for the rest of the nation.

1943- Ellen's father, Kirk Patterson, graduated from Harvard Law School in 1968. He was a briefing attorney for the Texas Supreme Court for Judge Jack Pope. He then practiced family law for many years in San Antonio, Texas and now is retired and is active in developing water policy for the San Antonio region.
