Interstages is hiring Part-Time creative and energetic Program and Development staff to support our expansion and growth in Wards 7 and 8 of Washington, DC.

stage for a successful transition into young adulthood.

Most important to us is that you share our passion for our mission and programs. Successful candidates will be comfortable visiting and participating in the program and interacting with youth, families, and community members. Prior experience in Wards 7-8 communities and community-based arts and/or youth development organizations is preferred.

Teaching Associates

(2 positions open; $15/hour)
March – June 2011 with the opportunity to serve as a Summer Teaching Associate
Hours: Monday – Thursday 2 - 6pm, Friday – 10am – 2pm/ 20 hours a week

Our Teaching Associates implement curriculum and day-to-day operations of
Interstages’ daily afterschool youth development program.

Duties include:

• Coach oral presentations, facilitate discussions and team-building activities.
• Tutoring one-on-one and in small groups.
• Manage weekly communication with families.
• Collaborate with other staff to implement large group activities, including field trips, opening/closing circles, rehearsals, etc.
• Foster cooperation and community-building (including team spirit, program-wide group cohesion, and positive relationships with families and community).
• Address students with an assets-based, cooperative, developmental approach consistent with Interstages’ mission and youth development principles.
• Consistently use Interstages’ positive reinforcement system to promote positive behavior choices, independence, and creative exploration.
• Support Interstages’ program evaluation.

Experience and Skills:

• Minimum 2-3 years in youth development; ability to build relationships and communicate with adolescent girls from different backgrounds
• Ability to understand young people’s needs
• Classroom management skills and good listening skills
• Ability to be creative and motivate others
• Has a positive, assets-based approach to partnership work with other organizations and artists
• Great organization and planning skills
• Background check required

Development Coordinator

(6 month part-time contract position; $1500 - 2000/month based on experience)

We are looking for an ambitious development professional to steer our fundraising efforts with a focus on implementing Interstages’ resource development strategy:
* diversifying revenue streams
* increasing unrestricted forms of support
* enhancing donor engagement
* building on organization-wide fundraising momentum

Experience and Skills:

• Minimum 3-5 years in development, including grantwriting/grants management, corporate outreach, and individual donor programs. Must demonstrate successful outcomes.
• Excellent writing and verbal communication skills.
• Budgeting experience and basic understanding of nonprofit finances (functional expense categories, etc.)
• Positive, team-oriented individual with ability to work independently and secure buy-in from across the organization.
• References from relevant past employment/contract work.
• Tech savvy and able to leverage social media tools (WordPress, Tumblr, Facebook, Twitter, etc.) to build audiences, raise funds and network.

This contract position has been funded by the DC Commission on the Arts &
Humanities through the East of the River Arts Initiative.
