SUMMER RECORDING WORKSHOP

at UNC and Manifold Recording Studio, August 6-14

AUDITIONS, SATURDAY MAY 12

40 of the region’s most talented singers, ages 14 -18, will be chosen to create a high school chorus that will perform and record songs by Radiohead, Bruno Mars, Band of Horses, VV Brown, Nick Cave, Ben Folds Five, etc.

Singers chosen after the audition will create a chorus in a week; working intensely at UNC-Chapel Hill with the chorus director, voice coaches and musicians. Participants will also take masterclasses covering harmony, arranging and performance technique, as well as a daily voice class with Sharon Szymanski. Chorus will perform on Saturday August 11th and record at Manifold Studio on Monday August 13th. Singers will be filmed, creating videos for YouTube.

All of the songs have been arranged by local musicians, including
Ari Picker from Lost in the Trees, Phil Cook from Megafaun, Django Haskins from The Old Ceremony and Seamus Kenney, composer and chorus director.

REM'S manager Bertis Downs says of the video:
". . . that is absolutely beautiful-I have chillbumps as I write this and I loved every second-the music, the filming, the expressions, the message, the rocking, the voices. Really beautifully done and I am sure the band will love it too."
