FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

MIAMI DOLPHINS’ OWN CHRIS BAKER SUPPORTS HARTFORD HURRICANES IN EFFORTS TO RAISE $1 MILLION

Youth Football and Cheerleading Organization Kicked Off $1 Million Fundraiser to Build New Turf in the Hartford Community

Hartford, CT- June 29, 2011- On Saturday, June 18, the Hartford Hurricanes, a non-profit organization, hosted their 1st "$1 Million Dollar Turf Run Fundraiser" at Cronin Park from 12pm-4pm, in an effort to build a brand new turf for the kids to play their games on.

With a little over 200 participants, the Hartford Hurricanes created a program designed to offer the youth in Hartford a supervised use of their leisure time. The Hartford Hurricanes goals are to create an atmosphere where kids can engage in sports after school, or on the weekends. All the volunteers put 100 % in making sure that the kids are safe and enjoying the activities, whether it’s the football players or the cheerleaders.

The event drew over 100 people with attendees ranging from all ages. "We want so much for our kids in the Hartford Community, which is why this event was so special to me and my board," says President Phil Byrant. "This event was a huge success and we thank Chris Baker for speaking to our youth and letting them know that their voices will be heard as long as they stand up."

The fun filled game day included a meet and greet with Motivational Speaker and Sports Figure Chris Baker of the Miami Dolphins, the Hartford Police and Fire Department, live entertainment, a dunk tank, tug of war, speed racing, and scrimmage games.

Chris Baker added, "It's a real honor to come back and speak to kids in the same community that I grew up. I'm so grateful to have been a part of such a meaningful event and be granted the opportunity to give back to the community by telling the kids my own personal story."
