1. Registration for the Annual Leaders' Summit
The NorCal High School Mountain Bike League’s annual Leaders’ Summit brings together coaches, assistant coaches, ride leaders, and parent volunteers—both new and experienced—to develop coaching skills and knowledge, share team strategies, and build community. This conference offers attendees workshops from experienced coaches and League staff, and a Friday or Sunday bike skills workshop with professional mountain bike skills author Lee McCormack. Registration is now open. Click here to get signed up.

2. Chileno Valley Classic a Sucess!
The NorCal League's annual cycling event The Chileno Valley Classic rolled out of Petaluma on Sunday, September 19 with great success. Fast Freddie Rodriguez joined us this year, as well as many others, and everyone was in good spirits despite the light rain we encountered. A big congratulations and thank you to our two top fundraisers: Michael Yoham and Brian Duke! These guys will be riding in style on their new Specialized and Trek bikes!

3. SF Urban Riders Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day
The second annual Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day is on on 10/3 in McLaren Park. This is a national event to promote off-road cycling for youth and as a family activity. This event is targeted for kids between the ages of 8-16 years old who have some biking experience. Specialized Bicycles is sponsoring the event this year and will be hosting all sorts of great activities to compliment the riding. Visit the SFUR Website for more detailed information.

4. NorCal Partners with the Positive Coaching Alliance
Keeping Head Coaches licenses current requires 9 hours of continuing education every 3 years. In order to diversify the ways a coach can obtain continuing education hours we have teamed up with the Positive Coaching Alliance. At anytime, coaches can take the online course "Double-Goal Coach: Coaching for Winning and Life Lessons", which will be worth 3 hours of continuing ed. Upon completion of the course coaches will receive a "Double-Goal Coach" certification card from the PCA. It's an online course, it costs $30 and coaches can take the course anytime! Once you receive your card, please email vanessa@norcalmtb.org so we can keep track of your hours.

5. Fall Training Limits:
League teams are limited to the number of weeks they can have practice. In addition, teams are not insured outside of these limits. Teams can commence limited pre-season activities on October 15th. Allowable pre-season activities are bike checks, fun rides, mechanical workshops or skills clinics. Between October 15 and November 31st, teams are allowed to have up to 6 scheduled pre-season activities. Regular training practice (3-4 times a week) can commence on December 1st. All team rides or other training activities must end within two weeks of the final League race. A more detailed description can be found here (PDF).

6. Biketoberfest: Handmade bike show and brewfest in Fairfax
