"My name is Jess, creator of Midnight Moon and three wonderful little children - Two boys (5 and 3) and a little lady who has just turned 1. I'm also a full-time uni student, I have no idea how I fit it all in!

We live in little ol' Tassie, and I've found it's such a wonderful place to raise children. I have always tried to be more environmentally conscious, having used cloth nappies on my two younger children so using cloth menstrual products seemed like a natural progression. After trying a few brands of cloth pads and not being entirely happy with them, I began sewing my own.

A few of my friends became interested so I also sewed some up for them, and suddenly Midnight Moon was born! Midnight Moon has given me the opportunity to do all the things I love - sewing, dyeing and shopping for gorgeous fabrics, whilst still being able to be at home with my children. Who could ask for more?!"

Frequently Asked Questions

We answer some questions often asked about reusable menstrual products.

Q: How do I know which way up the pad goes?

A: Different brands of cloth pad will have different aspects that can help show you which side goes up. Sometimes the printed fabric will be the top, sometimes it will be the backing. But there are some ways to tell which way up the pads go. Some pads will have stitching lines in the centre of the top of the pad, to help channel the flow. This clearly shows which side is the top of the pad. If the pad has minky or velour fabric, this would generally be as the top layer. Some brands will have a label attached to the back of the pad (either on the body of the pad or on the wing).

If you are unsure which way up the pad goes, contact the seller of that brand and they will be happy to clarify it for you.

Has released a new pad shape - the Amphora. This 25cm pad is flared at the front and back for a little more coverage. Broad wings fasten the pad a neat 7cm wide. This pad is ideal for day use and the variety of custom options mean that it can be made with absorbency to suit light to heavy flow. Shorter or longer pads are available by request.

You can also select your fabrics - the softness of bamboo velour or the feel dry of microfleece; select a gorgeous cotton print, a waterproof layer of PUL, or go for a polar fleece backing for more breathability but still allowing for moisture resistance. Recipe Book

In this section we share some of our favourite recipes.

Lemon Butter
4 eggs
3/4c sugar
1/2c lemon juice
2tsp finely grated lemon rind
125g chopped butter

Method
1. Place eggs and sugar in heatproof bowl
2. Place bowl over a pan of simmering water and whisk constantly until sugar dissolves.
3. Add lemon juice, rind and butter. Whisk mixture for 20 minutes or until it has thickened and coats the back of a spoon (the consistency of custard). Don't allow to boil as it will curdle.
4. Once cooled, pour into sterilised jars and seal. Makes a lovely gift if you don't eat it all first!
