Annual Adams Fly Festival

Please join the Kingsley Friends of the Library as they host the first Adams Fly Festival on Saturday, June 2 from noon-5 p.m. The afternoon will be filled with activities for the whole family including live music, food and beverages, and fly tying lessons. The Willow House Returns

The Grand Traverse Area Children's Garden is pleased to welcome back a new and improved Willow House. Soon this dome structure will bloom with 3" giant pussy willows. It will be a perfect spot for reading and having lunch with friends. It's about 5.5 ft. tall with circular windows made from dogwood branches. Thanks to Dean Conners (Borealis Design) for his design. FYI: Summer 2012 Library Closures

July 4: All TADL locations will be closed in observance of Independence Day.
July 14: TADL's Woodmere location will be closed from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. for the Cherry Royale Parade. The library will be open from 2 - 6 p.m.
August 7: TADL's East Bay Branch will be closed for the primary election.
August 26 - September 3: The Woodmere location will be closed during this time and reopen the day after Labor Day on Tuesday, September 4 to fully optimized services, which will include:
Welcome Desk that allows staff to greet visitors and provide direction to services and programs.
Four Express Checkout Stations.
Accessible Hold Shelf.

Ernest's Relatives

A Family Art Exhibit

An opening reception for Ernest's Relatives will be held on Sunday, June 10 from 2-4 p.m. in the McGuire Room at TADL's Main Branch. The reception is free and open to the public. All artists featured in the exhibit are related to Ernest Lichty, a local artisan noted for his carvings and work on the miniature village at the Music House. Among the artists exhibiting is well-known regional artist, Emily Lichty Woods. Read More.

TC Reads 2012 Book Selection

Traverse City READS, a “One Book, One Community” literacy initiative is pleased to announce that The Story of Beautiful Girl by Rachel Simon is the 2012 selection for Northern Michigan’s eleventh annual community book. TC READS has designated May through October as reading months and TC READS events will culminate with an appearance by author, Rachel Simon at the City Opera House on October 30. Read More.

Nice to Meet You

Brice Bush is a librarian in adult reference at the Woodmere (Main) Branch of the Traverse Area District Library. She grew up in Saginaw, Michigan and is proud to say she is the product of a working class town and public education. She earned a bachelor’s degree in education at Saginaw Valley State University and taught in various elementary schools before earning a Master’s degree in library science from Drexel University. She lived in several parts of the country including both the east and west coasts, before joining the TADL team in June of 2011. Brice loves to travel, knit, read, spend time at the beach, cook, hang out with friends and family, and generally spend time just enjoying her life. Stop by and say "hi" to Brice!
