Antoine Drive Knock Out Rose Project

A memorial fund of $3,000 was established for the Antoine Drive esplanade designer Ed Richardson almost 3 years ago. The Greater Inwood Partnership also received a City of Houston matching grant award. Together these funds will create the 4-esplanade Antoine Drive Knock Out Rose Project, with most of the work being done on the 500 foot esplanade directly across from the Aron Ledet Park.

That esplanade (click for more info), designed by famed local landscape architect Keiji Asakura, is part of a 3-phase project to create a landmark for the greater Inwood community.

Phase 1, the crushed granite design is already installed. Phase 2 is the exquisite planting of shrubs, flowers and trees. Phase 3 is a park art project that will be designed by Lone Star College.

June 20th is the deadline to receive the City of Houston matching funds

We had to wait for irrigation approval and installation which was completed this week. We will begin to prepare the shrub beds on Saturday, May 22nd.

The remaining 3 major jobs are:
1. Remove the sod
2. Prepare the beds (soil will be delivered and mixed into the existing soil)
3. Plant the roses

We have a tight deadline to meet and need your help...

The only tools a volunteer needs are a shovel and some muscle. We will work each Saturday morning through the June 20th deadline from 7:30 A.M. until 12:30 P.M. If anyone is available for Saturday morning help or during the week, please call Daphne Tumlin at 281-448-3187 or email.

Any help is appreciated and is very valuable to the completion of this project. Please help get the word out by asking your friends and neighbors. We promise this project is going to be a beautiful addition to our community that everyone will be proud of!
